Since 2019, I've lived and worked on the lands of First Nation, Métis, and Inuit (FNMI) peoples. As a recent arrival, it is my responsibility to educate myself on the history and continued legacy of colonialism, which includes acknowledging the privileges afforded to me and my research through colonialism.
Territory Acknowledgments
University of Alberta (2022 - )The University of Alberta is located on the ancestral lands of diverse FNMI peoples, including the Nêhiyaw, Niitsitapi, Métis, Nakota Isga, Dené, Haudenosaunee, Anishinaabe, Inuit, and many others. I respect the histories and cultures of FNMI peoples, who continue to enrich our vibrant community. I acknowledge the hierarchical system of privilege imposed by colonization which continues to oppress FNMI peoples and other marginalized peoples. I recognize my role as an educator and researcher in working towards truth and reconciliation. The land of Amiskwacîy-Wâskahikan is governed by Treaty 6, and is part of the Métis Nation of Alberta Region 4, in what is colonially known as Edmonton.
